Marsh Rangers F.C. had forgotten what a Sunday League pitch was like! This was not even the best of Sunday League pitches. To win Cups you must come to terms with ALL around you, and this is what Marsh did. It took a little time, but in the end came good.
Marsh, in their away colours of Red Shirts, Red Shorts, & Black Socks, did not look happy with the conditions. with even the weather dull & wet. Was a shock result on the cards? Although some players were used to these sorts of conditions, a number were not.
Kentish Town who play in M.C.F.L. Division One (central) are the reserves for their Spartan South Midlands Premier side, probably played their best game of the season early on, and a below full strength Marsh although still strong were made to look very ordinary. VERY".
Marsh did have a large amount of the play, but did not look dangerous. After around 17 minutes Kentish Town worked the ball to the edge of the box and blasted in a ball that seemed to travel all over the place but ended up past keeper Spencer Brown in the Marsh goal. This was not undeserved but still a major shock to Marsh. No further goals were scored in this half, and Marsh gathered for a Team talk at half time by Manager Dave Campbell.
The second half was totally different. Marsh seemed to have a much more dominant mood about them. After 5 minutes MAT MONHON received the ball in the area, turned one way and then the other to fire the ball into the top corner, giving the bemused keeper absolutely no chance to save. It now looked as if a large weight had been removed from the backs of Marsh players. Although not perhaps Out of this World" their Football was now showing their position near the top of the Premier Division. In the now remaining 30 minutes Marsh showed why they are perhaps The Team to Watch". TOMMY EDWARDS scored a hat trick, but hard work, and skilful football was put in by the whole Team. The ball was played down the wing to Mat Monhon who found Tommy in the area .. GOAL. Another ball was played by Mat to Tommy who seemed to pass the ball into the net. The fourth, his Hat Trick, was more of a confident one mans effort. Outside the area he fired the ball home for his third.
Elsewhere, it was nice to see Jonny Wiggins getting back to his best. Captain Craig Drew took no prisoners as he led the defence. Joint defensive hard man Phil Tubb joined him in putting up a solid wall against Kentish Town. Harrison Ashby is yet another player coming along nicely, as is Tom Veal, and with Adam Casey taking over from Spencer Brown in goal the defence looked as safe as ever. Steve Cloherty is rapidly getting back to full form and with Daniel Lobjoit helping keep possession in midfield all looked good.
Certainly in the end Marsh were worthy winners but the early performance of Kentish Town should keep them high in Division One.
