What a beautiful setting. A square in the middle of London, surrounded by trees and plants, with the Royal Hospital Chelsea gardens & Pensioners in the background. The sun shining & just a little breeze. Watching Marsh Rangers F.C. playing a good game of Football, what an ideal Saturday Afternoon.
The game was a good one between two teams in the top half of the table, and well Refereed as well. Firstly Sloane, then Marsh took control, then back to Sloane, then Marsh again .... Yes this was a good match. Both sides tried hard but both keepers stood firm. Both defences were in control but chances still fell. 10 minutes before half time Spencer Brown, helping out in goal for Marsh and playing well, gathered up the ball and went to throw it out .... but a shout stopped him. He held onto the ball for “ approx 19 seconds some say & moved around his area. The Referee eventually gave an indirect free kick. Sloane touched it to one side and scored. Oh Dear !! It stayed that way until early in the second half when with Marsh applying pressure PAUL NOLAN brought the ball down, beat a defender, and fired a shot past the diving Sloane keeper. Marsh now attacked even more, looking for the winner. Jack Bigwood kept feeding the ball forward, and Bradley Hand kept plugging away with Mat Monhon along side. A loose ball in the Marsh area was forced home by Sloane before more pressure from Marsh saw Miles Wiggins bring the ball down and ...... a Sloane player fired it past his OWN keeper. No further goals were scored but Jonny Wiggins had a good work out, and Tommy Edwards came on to try out his injury. Phil Tubb seemed to “ frighten “ some of the Sloane attackers as he played his usual assured defence role, and Spencer Brown made up for his earlier error with some more excellent saves. All in all a good point for Marsh which could have been 3 .
