On a sunny afternoon at Broadfields, and for some reason Paul Nolan in a bra !!!!!!!, Marsh met up in force with around 18 / 19 players available. This gave manager Dave Campbell a problem as he could only list 16 on his sheet for the match. A nice problem, but still a problem. Having sorted this out, we prepared for the match, on the undersize pitch. Singh Sabha Slough have only this season been placed in the Premier Division, where they may find games difficult to win. Marsh may only have won by one goal but it could so easily have been 4 or 5, and very rarely looked like conceding.
After only 9 minutes a long “educated" ball from Lee Henderson fell at the feet of his brother ALEX HENDERSON, who twisted and turned and found a way through the Sabha defence to blast the ball past the bemused keeper and into the net. This should have opened the doors for many more but somehow Marsh failed to take advantage of their superiority. If Marsh eased up Sabha looked better but this was few and far between. Two occasions, one in each half, ended with the Marsh bar being hit but very little else. Marsh wasted a lot of chances, and appeared to have so many corners, and chances, that how no more goals were scored is unbelievable. Marsh keeper Adam Casey could almost have set up a picnic in his goal, and Miles Wiggins has not had so easy a match for many moons . He seemed to scare Sabha which allowed him to push forward almost at will, and one effort at goal in the first half was a superb shot that the Sabha keeper did well to parry.
To sum things up ...... in the second half Alex Henderson & Rhys Price arranged, badly, a classic one – two that ended with both Players colliding & the ball rolling clear..... more like something out of “Come Dancing". After a few weeks lay off, Club Captain Harry Thomas was reintroduced into the defence, and looked like he had never been away. Rhys Price just missed from close in, and Phil Tubb blasted the ball narrowly over the bar from just inside the area. Spencer Brown kept pushing forward, and Harrison Ashby again had a good match, but all in all Marsh were below par. Still, grinding out results when not playing at your best is how honours are won. So who knows !!!
Marsh Rangers F.C. move up to 3rd place with this victory.
