New Season, New Pitch, New Surroundings, New Players added to existing ones, etc. What was to happen this season ? At least the initial early answer came today. Our initial match was against Kodak, at home. Both sides were quickly into their rhythm but Marsh seemed to have a certain confidence about them which proved a winner.
Once again, the Marsh defence was outstanding. Perhaps, for those old enough, a lot like The Arsenal F.C. under Bertie Mee or George Graham. They Shall Not Pass. Adam Casey [goal] along with Miles & Jonny Wiggins, Phil Tubb, and Birthday Boy captain HARRY THOMAS stood firm against anything that Kodak could muster against them. Harry was 22 years old earlier so scoring the first 2 goals should have been expected but was an added bonus. The first was in the 16th minute from a Jack Bigwood corner, he rose like a salmon out of the pack to head the ball home. The second was 10 minutes later from a Jack Bigwood free kick and was thundered home by Harry, low at the near post. A few minutes later Jack Bigwood received the ball across the field from Tommy Edwards and blasted a shot against the Kodak post. Kodak had not been happy with the Referee because of something that happened last season, nothing to do with Marsh, and for some reason on 44 minutes after he gave them a goal kick and a player made some comment and was sent off. Perhaps they didnt need it but this certainly had an effect on the match for Marsh and Kodak were no longer in the picture.
The second half saw an early venture by Kodak, but then very little as Marsh took complete control. After 61 minutes substitute HARRISON ASHBY received the ball inside and fired an explosive shot from around 40 yards, that sent the Kodak keeper into a backward flip with no chance of saving the ball. On 73 minutes Jack Bigwood, yet again from a dead ball position, centered the ball for MAT MONHON to fire the ball home from close range. Perhaps the best was saved til last !!!!! On 84 minutes JACK BIGWOOD picked the ball up in midfield, cut inside, and from around 35 yards sent in a screamer that looped over the Kodak keepers head and into the back of the net. A scorcher. After the match the Kodak keeper said he was certain that it was going high but seemed to just drop. Who would be a keeper ?.
