A large crowd for an evening Marsh match witnessed a generally good game on a wicked evening. News came through that even QPR v Watford had been postponed so a few more attended this match. They were certainly not disappointed with what they saw from both sides.
Once again both these Teams were a credit to the Middlesex County Football League.
Both sides warmed up before the Match with training sessions. Marsh led by Head Coach Tony Heath, and Manager Dave Campbell. Hounslow by Coaches Saj Panesar & Thomas Thomas, as well as Manager Vip Mair.
In the snow and rain both sides attacked from the off. Marsh perhaps looked a little more dangerous as they tried to remove all traces of their weekend semi-final defeat in the County Cup. Both sides were a little short of perhaps their strongest sides but also tonight both sides played good football. Marsh opened the scoring when BRADLEY GRANT gathered the ball some distance out, glided past and through a static Hounslow defence to slot the ball past the advancing keeper. Within 10 minutes Hounslow crept in behind the Marsh defence to equalise. Both sides had further chances with Hounslow, this time, having the better ones.
Half time came, and both Managers and Coaching Staff gave their Team Talks. Still in snow & rain Hounslow started to take control and took the lead, then scored again to make it 1 – 3 and were well on top. Marsh still tried to play but last Saturday plus the rain seemed to be taking its toll on them now. Stand-in keeper Spencer Brown had made some good saves but now looked almost finished. Under the rare Captaincy of Jack Bigwood Marsh somehow fought their way back into the game. Steven Cloherty played very well out of position at full back whilst Paul Nolan produced some of the silky skills he possesses and Alex Henderson began to run Hounslow into the ground. BRADLEY HAND suddenly produced 1 , 2 , 3 goals from various situations. Crosses from numerous players were being turned into the Hounslow net . Marsh were now functioning on all cylinders. They were now 4 – 3 ahead and looking good for the win. Hounslow raised their game again and an exciting remaining minutes took place before ALEX HENDERSON “ turned the game in favour of Marsh “, finishing off a good run with a neatly taken goal for number 5 .
Once again both sides had played well to contribute to an excellent match in foul weather.
The Officials had played their part, and most supporters must have gone home happy. WET and COLD but HAPPY.
