County Cup Finalists Broadfields F.C. ( yet to be played ) not only arrived late but in no rush to get on with the game. The Referee says he will put it in his report. They said they thought it was a 2.30 kick off even though they had acknowledged 2.00 pm.
Anyway, it was a warm day and Marsh arrived to find their playing squad was not in the best of health. A large number of injuries + working commitments was to greatly reduce the line up. We gathered the healthiest 11, no real subs, and set about playing the game. It was a tight match with both defences well on top.The midfields were not often able to take control, and forwards had very few shots at goal. The Marsh defence held up well in the first half and it was no surprise to hear the half time whistle blow at 0 – 0.
The second half began with Broadfields showing a new lease of life. They ploughed forward with “strong" aggression often being wavered on by the Referee, and leaving a Marsh player sprawled on the deck. It was a good job that Spencer ( Marsh goal ) and his defenders Craig Drew, Jonny Wiggins, Phil Tubb, & Steve Cloherty managed to stem them a little. Even so they took the lead after 54 minutes from a close in finish. During the second half they must have hit the goal post / bar around 5 times and totally missed in front of goal another 7. Marsh were trying, and did muster the odd attack with forwards Bradley Hand & Bradley Grant chasing lost causes and trying to put what little pressure they could on Broadfields. With Marsh getting tired and time running out PHILTUBB gathered the ball in defence, ran over the half way line, avoided two tackles, played some one – twos with fellow Marsh players, received the ball back again in the Broadfields area and fired home for an unexpected leveler. I think he then returned back to his defence for a breather !!!! This was in the 85th minute. Marsh then mustered a few more attacks, even though Broadfields lifted themselves again. The match ended with Marsh on the attack as the final whistle blew.
ps Get well soon , please , Marsh Rangers F.C. inured , but well done to those who played .
